Matt Brandman is the Head of Security and IT at Duolingo, the world's most popular language learning platform with over 80 million daily active users. While at Duolingo Matt has built a security team, implemented a distributed zero trust VPN, implemented network changes that prevented 90% of security related outages, and added continuous application scanning to the CI/CD platform.
He focuses on fostering a culture of inclusivity within security making sure developers feel a partnership with the security team and safe coming to them with issues. He emphasizes a deep understanding of businesses he operates within sculpting the security models to their unique needs.
Prior to Duolingo, Matt was the Lead Application Security Engineer at Blackstone where he started and built out the application security program from 0 to 5 engineers. The core focus of the team was a modular serverless code scanning process that is still in use by the entire organization.
Matt has a BS in Computer Science with a Concentration in Cyber Operations from Northeastern University.
